The Community Endowment Defined

The Community Endowment is "a pool of dollars" and assets that are:

  • contributed by local residents
  • controlled by local residents
  • invested for the long term
  • used to benefit the local community

The plan is to launch an endowment campaign to initially raise $10 million and eventually at least $50 million to create a permanent endowment.  From this endowment, grants will be made to local civic and non profit groups to promote education, health & wellness, arts & culture, environment, recreation and economic development for this geographically isolated and under served area.

Endowment funds will be raised primarily through planned gifts from local residents, as well as grants from state and national private foundations.

The Endowment is not meant to replace current and favorite fundraising efforts; although we hope that it will quiet some of that frantic local competition for much needed local dollars.  The Fund is meant to complement and complete the basic development function that none of our non-profit partners have the human or financial resources to support on their own.
